In order to explore specific issues in greater depth, ICC has held circumpolar summits between our General Assemblies on issues that have been identified during our deliberations.<\/p>\n

For example, if you read through the Kitigaaryuit Declaration from the 2014 General Assembly held in Inuvik, Canada, you will see the three summits we have included in this part of our website. They were on Economic Development, Wildlife Harvesting, and Education.<\/p>\n

Titiraqtat Inuit Circumpolar Writers\u2019 Festival 2023<\/h3>\n

October 13-15\u2014Iqaluit<\/h4>\n

Titiraqtat: Inuit Circumpolar Writers Festival<\/strong> is a celebration of the continuation of the storytelling tradition and culture. The 2023 festival is in Iqaluit, Nunavut, from October 13-15 and will bring together established local, national, and international Inuit writers over three days to celebrate and showcase their writings. ICC is excited to have writers from Greenland, Alaska, and Canada who are traveling to attend the event. There is a fascinating lineup of events and presentations planned. See the schedule below. Inuit Circumpolar Council Canada is organizing the festival with funding provided by the Canada Council for the Arts. This is the first Inuit circumpolar writing festival of its kind, with hopes of it becoming a regular gathering.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Arctic Peoples\u2019 Conference<\/h3>\n

July 20-21, 2023\u2014 Ilulissat, Kalaallit Nunaat<\/h4>\n

The 2023 Arctic Peoples\u2019 Conference took place on Thursday and Friday, July 20th to 21th in Ilulissat, Greenland, as a two-day conference. Representatives of Arctic Peoples organizations and representative institutions, including youth representatives, are invited to participate. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

2021 Virtual Inuit Health Summit<\/h3>\n

September 20 \u2013 October 26, 2021\u2014 Chukotka, Alaska, Canada, and Greenland<\/h4>\n

Article 23 of the 2018 Utqia\u0121vik Declaration directed ICC to host a Circumpolar Inuit Summit on Health and Wellness focusing on efforts and initiatives to reduce and eradicate health disparities harming our families and prioritizing mental wellness, addictions, and suicide prevention.<\/p>\n

The Virtual Inuit Health Summit was held from September 20 \u2013 October 26, 2021, with participants from Chukotka, Alaska, Canada, and Greenland. The focus was on youth and how a strong connection to our culture is a protective factor against suicide, and essential to improved mental well-being.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Circumpolar Inuit Economic Summit<\/h3>\n

March 28-30, 2017 \u2013 Anchorage, Alaska<\/h4>\n

The 2014 Kitigaaryuit Declaration provided the mandate for ICC leadership to plan and convene a Circumpolar Inuit Economic Summit, which would explore potential collaborations among Inuit businesses and facilitate Inuit businesses sharing experiences amongst themselves.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Circumpolar Inuit Wildlife Management Summit<\/h3>\n

The 2014 Kitigaaryuit Declaration provided the mandate for ICC leadership to plan and convene a Circumpolar Inuit Wildlife Management Summit, which would examine the influence that policies (international, regional, national instruments), environmental change, public perceptions, and changing social economic conditions in the Arctic are having on Arctic wildlife and Inuit food security.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Circumpolar Inuit Education Summit<\/h3>\n

February 13-18, 2018 \u2013 Nuuk, Greenland<\/h4>\n

The 2014 Kitigaaryuit Declaration provided the mandate for ICC leadership to plan and convene a Circumpolar Inuit Education Summit. Inuit pedagogical experts and practitioners from across the circumpolar region (Chukotka, Alaska, Canada and Greenland) met for three days in Nuuk, Greenland to deal with the urgent formal education gap facing their communities, and to share successful pedagogical approaches with each other. Government ministers, Inuit political leaders, youth, and various observers also attended the summit.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
