The re-election of this government will provide consistency on key issues for Inuit at the international level such as climate change, at the Arctic Council, United Nations forums, and domestically regarding the ongoing issue of reconciliation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the Arctic ridings, we congratulate Lori Idlout for her victory in Nunavut for the New Democratic Party (NDP). Yvonne Jones was re-elected for the Liberal Party in Labrador, representing Inuit communities in Nunatsiavut. Bloc Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois incumbent Sylvie B\u00e9rub\u00e9, meanwhile won her seat in the Nunavik riding of Abitibi-Baie-James-Nunavik-Eeyou.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe view the results positively for the issues that we speak out on at the international level for Inuit,\u201d said Monica Ell-Kanayuk, President of ICC Canada. \u201cWe will continue to work with this government, and engage with the other parties, to ensure that the issues we speak on behalf of Inuit are understood, at the United Nations, Arctic Council, and the UNFCCC process, to name a few. The next major international climate change meeting \u2013 COP26 \u2013 starts on November 1st<\/sup> in Glasgow, Scotland. We want Canada at the table because the stakes are so high for all of us.
