  1. What positions are being elected?

The following positions will be elected during the 2026 ICC Canada Annual General Meeting:

  • President
    • Vice-President, International Affairs

The ICC President is a full-time position with a term of four (4) years from 2026-2030.

The Vice-President, International Affairs is a part-time appointment with a term of four (4) years from 2026-2030.

Detailed job descriptions for both positions will be posted when available.

  1. When and where is the election?

The election will take place on July 21, 2026 in Iqaluit, Nunavut during the ICC Canada Annual General Meeting.

  1. Who is eligible to run?

To be eligible, a candidate must:

  • be an Inuk registered with one of the following Member organizations:
    – Inuvialuit Regional Corporation
    – Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated
       – Makivik Corporation
       – Nunatsiavut Government
    • be at least 18 years of age on election day.
  1. How may a candidate be nominated?

A candidate may be nominated in one of two ways:

  1. Self-nomination:
    An eligible Inuk may submit their own nomination package together with signatures from at least 20 Inuit who are 18 years of age or older supporting the candidacy.

    b. Member nomination:
    An ICC Canada Member organization may nominate an eligible Inuk in writing.

  2. What must be included in a nomination package?

Nomination packages must include:


  • completed nomination/application form; or
    • nominee attestation and consent form;
    • proof of beneficiary status;
    • residential address and date of birth;
    • passport-quality photo;
    • valid current criminal record check;
    • $200 nomination deposit;
    • supporter signatures, if applicable.

    Incomplete nomination packages may not be accepted. Nominees Nominees are encouraged to attach a brief biography or resume detailing the candidate’s relevant experience.

  1. Is the $200 deposit required for all candidates?

Yes. Under the ICC Canada Election Procedures Manual, all nomination papers must be accompanied by a $200 deposit.

  1. How may the deposit be paid?

The deposit may be paid by:

  • certified cheque;
    • money order;
    • electronic fund transfer at a local branch; or
    • electronic money transfer (EMT).

Instructions will be provided by the Chief Returning Officer.

  1. When is the nomination deadline?

Nomination packages must be received no later than:

July 1, 2026 at 5:00 PM EST.

Late submissions will not be accepted.

  1. Will nomination deposits be returned?

Deposits will be returned:
• to candidates who are elected; or
• to candidates who receive at least one (1) vote in the election.

Deposits are forfeited if a candidate withdraws.

  1. Can candidates campaign?

Candidates may campaign in a respectful and professional manner consistent with ICC Canada’s Election Procedures and any directions issued by the Chief Returning Officer.

  1. Who may vote?

Voting eligibility is governed by the ICC Canada By-laws and Election Procedures Manual.

For the election of President and Vice-President, International Affairs, the following individuals are entitled to vote:

  • the Vice-President, National Affairs;
  • Member Representatives; and
  • Delegates selected by ICC Canada Members in accordance with the By-laws.

Each eligible voter is entitled to one (1) vote.

Delegates and Member Representatives must be selected or designated by their respective ICC Canada Member organization in accordance with that organization’s procedures and the ICC Canada By-laws.

  1. What happens if only one candidate is nominated?

If only one eligible candidate is nominated for a position by the close of nominations, that candidate will be declared elected by acclamation.

  1. Where can I obtain election materials?

Election materials are available from ICC Canada at www.inuitcircumpolar.com or by contacting the Chief Returning Officer.
