In the report of the ICC Task Force on Trade, at the 9th General Assembly of the Inuit Circumpolar Conference held in Kuujjuaq, Nunavik in August 2002, the Chair made the following recommendations:
1. It is recommended that the ICC Task Force on Trade be given another four-year mandate to continue its work.
2. It is recommended that ICC set aside at least one professional resource person who is dedicated solely to the work of the Task Force.
3. It is recommended that increased funding be provided to the Task Force, and guidelines be provided on how funding should be raised for project-specific activities of the Task Force.
4. It is recommended that ways be found to include trade issues of importance to Russian Inuit, and funding for participation from Chukotka be identified.
5. It is recommended that the ICC Executive Council, while maintaining the Terms of Reference as is, provide clear guidance on priorities it wishes the Task Force to work on. In this respect, the Executive Council may want to consider having the work focus on one particular species over a period of time.
6. It is recommended that one of the priorities be to continue the important dialogue started by the Task Force on the USA’s Marine Mammal Protection Act, and that it finalize plans to invite a IPCOMM members to Canada and Greenland.
