CALL FOR NOMINATIONS – PRESIDENT

Inuit Circumpolar Council (Canada) is seeking nominations for the position of President for the term 2022‑2026.  The President, shall be elected by a majority vote at the ICC (Canada) Annual General Meeting to take place in Kuujjuaq, Nunavik on July 18, 2022. 

This is a full time salaried position for a term of four (4) years beginning on July 21, 2022.

Candidates for the position of President must be Inuit and at least 18 years of age.

Nomination process:

  1. Any individual Inuk may put his or her name forth as a candidate for the position of President.  The submission shall include the signatures of twenty (20) other Inuit who support the candidacy. The candidate shall make reasonable efforts to obtain written declarations of candidacy from the other regions.
  • The nomination must be accompanied by a certified cheque or money order made payable to Inuit Circumpolar Council (Canada) in the amount of $200.
  • A Settlement Claim Area Member may, in writing, nominate any one (1) Inuk for the position of President no later than 5:00 p.m. EST on June 13, 2022.
  • Terms of Reference, nomination procedures and application forms are available at www.inuitcircumpolar.com or by contacting ICC (Canada). Forms and deposits must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. EST June 13, 2022.

TERMS OF REFERENCE 2022-2026 President

Classification: Elected, Term Position

REPORTS TO: ICC Canada Board of Directors

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The President is the Chief Executive Officer of Inuit Circumpolar Council (Canada).  The President oversees the general and active management of the business of the corporation, and sees that all orders and resolutions of the Board of Directors are carried out.

The ICC Canada President is the Canadian Vice-Chair of the international ICC Executive Council, and carries out these duties in accordance with the Inuit Circumpolar Council international by-laws.

The ICC Canada President is Vice-President of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, and carries out these responsibilities in accordance with the ITK by-laws.

The ICC Canada President is also President of the ICC Foundation/Fondation ICC, and carries out these duties in accordance with the ICC Foundation by-laws.

Duties and Responsibilities:

ICC Canada

  • Serve as the Chief Executive Officer of ICC Canada;
  • Preside at meetings of members and of the Board of Directors;
  • Be responsible to ICC Canada Board of Directors for all affairs and activities of ICC Canada, including the administration of Office of the Chair while hosted by ICC Canada;
  • Ensure all Board decisions are consistent with ICC Canada bylaws and objectives;
  • Make recommendations to the Board on amendments to the By-laws;
  • Monitor developing international trends, policies, programs and issues with actual or potential impact for Canadian Inuit;
  • Provide guidance and leadership on international policy development;
  • Provide policy input to development of strategic plans;  
  • Represent ICC Canada to governments, organizations, and the Canadian and international public;
  • Take measures to secure adequate funding for the operations and activities of ICC Canada;
  • The President will be the chief spokesperson for ICC Canada

ICC Executive Council

  • Serve as ICC Vice-Chair for Canada on the ICC Executive Council;
  • Work closely with the ICC Chair and Executive Council to implement the four-year international mandate as identified by the General Assembly;
  • Ensure that policies and positions taken by the Executive Council take into consideration the priorities, policies and positions of Canadian Inuit;
  • Participate in ICC committees and working groups as time permits; and
  • Ensure appropriate Canadian Inuit participation in international meetings and General Assemblies.

Level of engagement:

This is a full-time position.

Remuneration:

  • A Compensation Package for the President is determined through negotiations with the ICC Canada Board of Directors.
  • This is a salaried position and compensation will be paid on a bi-weekly basis.

Term of Office:

The term of office is for four years, beginning July 21, 2022 and ending on the last day of the 2026 ICC General Assembly.

Inuit Circumpolar Council (Canada) is seeking nominations for the position of Vice-President, International Affairs, for the term 2022‑2026.   The Vice-President, International Affairs, shall be elected by a majority vote at the ICC (Canada) Annual General Meeting to take place in Kuujjuaq, Nunavik on July 18, 2022. 

This is a part‑time limited commitment non salaried position for a term of four (4) years beginning on July 21, 2022.

Candidates for the position of Vice-President, International Affairs, must be Inuit and at least 18 years of age.

TERMS OF REFERENCE 2022-2026 VICE-president (international affairs)

Classification: Elected limited Part-time, NON-SALARIED Term Position

REPORTS TO: ICC Canada Board of Directors

The ICC Canada Vice-President (International Affairs) is an officer of the organization and is one of the two Canadian members of the ICC Executive Council.  The primary role the Vice-President (International Affairs) is to attend meetings of the ICC Executive Council.

The ICC Canada Vice-President (International Affairs) is also Vice-President (International Affairs) of the ICC Foundation/Fondation ICC, and carries out these duties in accordance with the ICC Foundation by-laws.

The position of the ICC Canada Vice President (International Affairs) is a part-time, non-salaried term position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

ICC Canada

  • Participate in meetings of the ICC Canada board and members;
  • Represent the organization at meetings as requested by the President or the ICC Canada Board, and as time and funds permit.

ICC Executive Council

  • Participate in meetings of the ICC Executive Council;
  • Work with the ICC Chair and other Executive Council members to provide direction for implementation of the four-year international mandate as identified by the General Assembly;
  • Provide a Canadian Inuit perspective to deliberations on international policies and positions of the ICC Executive Council; and
  • Participate in ICC committees and working groups as requested by the President or the ICC Canada Board, and as time and funds permit.

LEVEL OF ENGAGEMENT:

The Vice President (International Affairs) is a limited part-time position. The estimated number of days required to fulfill the Vice-President’s corporate responsibilities would range from 20 to 35 per year based on the following:

  • Executive Council Meetings + teleconferences  (2 per year)  7-14 days
  • ICC Canada Board meetings + teleconferences (2 per year)  6-12 days
  • ICC Canada AGM  3-4 days
  • Miscellaneous teleconferences & meetings   4-5 days

REMUNERATION:

This is a non-salaried position, however when carrying out these duties, professional fees may be provided when the Vice-President (International Affairs) does not receive monetary compensation from another source. 

Any reasonable business expenses properly incurred during the term of engagement may be reimbursed subject to compliance with ICC’s expense reimbursement policies and practices, and presentation of proper receipts and expense reports.

Term of Office:

The term of office is for four years, beginning July 21, 2022 and ending on the last day of the 2026 ICC General Assembly.
